Bartons Environmental Policy 2025

Environmental Policy for Bartons Transport

INTRODUCTION

At Bartons Transport Company, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable transport solutions. As a key player in the transportation industry, we recognize our responsibility to help reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. This environmental policy outlines our commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

1. REDUCING CARBON EMMISSIONS

A – Fleet Efficiency

We are dedicated to improving the fuel efficiency of our fleet by investing in modern, fuel-efficient coaches and maintaining all these vehicles to the highest standards. For 2025 we have 18 brand new 53 seat coaches on order all Euro 6 emission standard along with 2 Turas midi coaches. The “Euro” emission standards, issued in a series of European Union Directives that define the acceptable limits for vehicle exhaust emissions, all our coaches are under 5 years old and compliant.  At the same time, the drive system achieves particularly low fuel consumption and thus ensures excellent travel economy. In addition, we run a preventive maintenance program which combined with regular servicing and monitoring of vehicle performance through our Fleet manager system ensures optimal fuel consumption and reduced emissions and very few breakdowns.

B -Eco-Driving Practices

Our coaches are all fitted with Fleet Manager an invaluable tool which enables us to monitor driving behavior thus allowing us to train drivers in eco-friendly driving techniques, such as minimizing idling, smooth acceleration, and deceleration, to maximize fuel efficiency and lower emissions during all journeys. We also continually strive to reduce our empty running miles by more efficient route planning with the assistance of our vehicle tracking system.

2. ENERGY AND RESOURCE EFFICIENCY

A – Energy Conservation

We will minimize energy consumption in all our facilities, using energy-efficient lighting, heating, and equipment, and encouraging employees to adopt energy-saving behaviors.

B- Water Conservation

We will ensure efficient water use across our operations, including vehicle washing and maintenance activities, by employing water-saving technologies and recycling where possible.

C- Resource Management

We are committed to reducing waste by adopting the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. This includes minimizing paper use by transitioning to digital systems and recycling materials where applicable.

3.WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING

A- Waste Management

We implement effective waste management strategies, such as waste segregation and recycling programs, to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills. We aim to recycle 80% of our waste; currently we recycle all cardboard, paper, plastic, metal and used engine oil.  We reduce the amount of paper printed and use electronic means of forwarding documents.  We use Tetra Water cartons containing superb natural water plus the packaging is 100% recyclable.

B- Responsible Disposal

Hazardous materials such as oils, batteries, and tires will be disposed of responsibly, in line with environmental regulations, to prevent pollution and protect ecosystems. We are under contract with Panda a company leading the way in green energy and waste management solutions, to take care of our municipal waste and our recycled waste.  Our waste oil and filters are collected by Enva a licensed contractor. All our waste disposal is documented, and copies kept on file in the office.

 4. SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

A-Green Procurement

We prioritize the purchase of environmentally friendly products and services, such as eco-friendly cleaning products and recycled materials, where possible.

B-Partnerships for Sustainability

We collaborate with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to environmental responsibility and encourage sustainable practices throughout our supply chain.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

A-Legal Compliance

We ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and standards, and continuously monitor our operations to meet or exceed legal requirements.

B-Monitoring and Reporting

We regularly monitor our environmental performance. This includes tracking key metrics such as fuel efficiency, emissions, and waste reduction, as well as setting and reviewing environmental targets.

 6. RAISING AWARENESS AND ENGAGEMENT

A- Employee Engagement

We provide training and resources to ensure that all employees understand their role in reducing environmental impact and actively contribute to the company’s environmental goals. All our drivers complete annual CPCs. We promote safe responsible and considerate driving whilst reducing fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance. We utilize Fleet Manager Data to educate drivers.  The reports from Fleet Manager identifies where drivers are over revving / over speeding idling and using harsh breaking along with overall fuel consumption per trip.

B- Customer Awareness

We promote eco-conscious travel options and encourage our passengers to reduce their carbon footprint by choosing coach transport over more polluting modes of travel.

7. INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY

Bartons believe in equal opportunities, and we consider all job applications.  Our workforce reflects the diversity of cultures in Ireland.  We would welcome mor applications from women.

8. CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT

We are committed to continuously improving our environmental practices. We regularly review our policies, and seek innovative solutions, we aim to be at the forefront of environmental sustainability in the coach transport industry.
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and effective in achieving our environmental goals.
